Author Guidelines

Authors are required to prepare their manuscripts carefully by adhering to the following technical guidelines before submitting the manuscript. The most effective way to ensure layout compliance is to download and type directly into the Official JHESy Manuscript Template.
General Formatting Specifications
- Page Size: A4 (210 mm x 297 mm).
- Manuscript Length: 6 to 12 pages, including all text, tables, and figures.
- Font: Times New Roman.
- Line Spacing: Single space (1 space).
- Text Alignment: Justified.
Structure and Systematic Writing
1. Title Page, Corresponding Author, and Anonymised Main Manuscript
To ensure a double-blind peer review, authors must submit two separate documents:
- Title Page: A separate document containing the article title, the full names of all authors without embedding academic degrees, their full affiliations (Department, Faculty, Institution), and an active email address for each author, denoted by a superscript number.
- Main Manuscript: The fully anonymised manuscript containing the title (14pt, bold, Title Case), abstract, and the main text. Ensure no author names or affiliations are included in this document.
Corresponding Author: One author must be designated as the corresponding author — the individual responsible for all editorial communications, responding to reviewer comments, coordinating revisions, approving the final galley proofs, and serving as the primary point of contact with the Journal before and after publication in accordance with the Authorship and Contributorship Policy. The corresponding author's name and active email address must be clearly identified on the Title Page. By submitting the manuscript, the corresponding author confirms that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version and agreed to its submission.
2. Plagiarism Check Report
To uphold academic integrity standards and expedite the initial review process, authors are required to upload a similarity check report generated by credible plagiarism detection software at the time of manuscript submission.
- Plagiarism Report: A similarity check report generated by verifiable software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar services.
- Upload Deadline: The report must be uploaded along with the main manuscript at the time of submission via the journal system.
- Completeness Status: Manuscripts submitted without a plagiarism report will be considered incomplete and may be returned to the author before further processing.
- Editorial Verification: The editorial board reserves the right to conduct its own independent review to ensure the accuracy of the results, the integrity of the manuscript, and compliance with the journal’s Plagiarism Policy.
3. Removing Identifying Metadata
To guarantee true anonymity, authors must also remove identifying information from the file properties before submission:
- Microsoft Word: Go to File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document. Uncheck everything except "Document Properties and Personal Information", run the inspector, and click "Remove All".
- PDF: Go to File > Properties and remove any author names from the "Description" tab.
4. Abstract and Keywords
- Abstract (11pt): Structured in one unified paragraph without indentation. The abstract must straightforwardly summarise the essence of the background, methodology, and primary findings of the research, without citing literature. The abstract ranges from 100 to 200 words and can be written in standard Indonesian or English.
- Keywords (11pt): List a maximum of 7 (seven) specific keywords or phrases. Arrange them in alphabetical order and separate each keyword using a semicolon (;).
5. Main Text Structure
Each main subheading is written in 11pt, bold. Empirical research articles follow the structure Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, and Conclusion. Normative, conceptual, or case-study articles may use an alternative structure appropriate to their objectives, approach, and method, as defined in our Types of Manuscripts policy.
- Introduction: Outlines the background, previous literature, novelty, urgency, and research objectives.
- Methods: Explains the research design, data collection, and analytical methods where relevant to the article type.
- Results and Discussion: Presents findings or analysis systematically and critically according to the research approach.
- Conclusion: Answers the research objectives concisely and clearly.
6. Visual Elements (Tables and Figures)
- Tables: Provide sequential numbering (Table 1, Table 2, etc.). The table title is placed at the top of the table with left alignment. The standard font size for table content is 11pt, but it can be adjusted down to a minimum of 8pt if the data is very dense. Every table must be referenced or discussed within the manuscript text.
- Figures: Provide sequential numbering (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). The figure caption is placed at the bottom of the figure, centred, in 11pt font. Image resolution must be proportional and clearly readable. Every figure must be referenced within the text.
7. Bibliography (References)
The quality of the literature greatly influences the credibility of the article. The provisions for compiling the bibliography are as follows:
- Quantity: Include a minimum of 15 references.
- Currency and Quality: A minimum of 80% of the total references must come from reputable scientific journal articles (having a valid DOI) published within the last 5 (five) years. The remaining 20% can be sourced from secondary sources such as reference books, official reports, or other credible sources.
- Reference Management Software: Authors are required to use automatic reference management software, such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote, to avoid citation errors.
- Citation Style: All citations and the bibliography must comply with the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th Edition standard format.
8. Data Availability Statement
Authors of empirical, field, or socio-legal research are encouraged to state the availability of their research data (such as interview transcripts, survey instruments, field notes, or court ruling dossiers). If data cannot be publicly shared due to informant confidentiality, sharia banking privacy, or legal restrictions, authors must explicitly state the rationale in this section.
Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools
Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools in accordance with the journal's AI Policy. Use of AI for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic reference formatting does not require disclosure. Use of AI for substantive translation, paraphrasing, restructuring, summarisation, argument development, data analysis, programming, visualisation, or any material change to the manuscript must be disclosed. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, integrity, and ethical compliance of all submitted content. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. For complete requirements, please refer to the AI Policy.
Corrections and Retractions
Authors are expected to promptly contact the editorial office through the Contact Page if significant errors, inaccuracies, ethical concerns, or legal issues are identified in their published work. The Journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or other notices in accordance with the Withdrawal and Retraction Policy.
